FracMan Applications: Nuclear Waste Management
FracMan is a leading discrete feature network (DFN) code for radioactive waste
applications.
- Performance Assessment
FracMan DFN models have been used as primary and alternative
performance assessment analysis approach in Japan, Sweden,
Spain, and the United States. FracMan PAWorks
provides radionuclide pathway information at scales from
the individual emplacement hole to the repository and
site scales. FracMan pathways analysis can be linked directly
to integrated safety assessment codes such as Golder Associates'
RIP package.
- In Situ Testing
The FracMan consulting team provides
a full range of services for geological and hydrological data collection.
In situ test program design is supported through FracMan/FracWorks
simulated exploration features.
- Data Analysis
Geological and hydrological data analysis is a key components of both site
specific and generic radioactive waste disposal projects. Members of the FracMan
consulting team has been carrying of
data analysis in support of radioactive waste disposal projects since 1977.
FracMan/FracSys provides an integrated
suite of data analysis tools to support site characterization and performance
assessment.
- Flow and Transport Analysis
MAFIC and PAWorks
have been used extensively since 1988 for flow and transport analysis. These
codes are used by major nuclear waste management authorities as primary flow
and transport codes.
FracMan has been used for radioactive waste disposal projects in the following
countries:
- United States: Yucca Mountain (Nevada), WIPP (New Mexico), Wake County (North
Carolina), NRC (Regulator, Washington DC)
- United Kingdom: Sellafield and Dunray Projects
- Sweden: SKB (Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Co), SKI (Regulator)
- Finland: VTT, Technical Research Institute
- France: Andra
- Switzerland: Nagra Sedimentstudie and Wellenberg Projects
- Spain: Enresa
- Japan: Power Reactor and Nuclear Fuel Development Co (PNC)
- Korea: KAERI/NEMAC, SKEC
