Selected FracMan Projects

FracMan has been used in various studies for oil and natural gas fields around the world. Here are some brief descriptions of selected projects.

North America

Austin Chalk Exploration
Golder assisted a major North American exploration and production company in high-grading prospects in the Austin Chalk.

Gas Field Development
Development of fractured reservoir model for major gas play. The Model was used to improve completion design, and to improve forecasts of ultimate recovery from gas wells.

Oil Field Simulation
Development of fractured reservoir model for foothills/foreland basin-type oil play for major North American exploration and production company. Model data was used to create input values for client's proprietary dual-porosity, dual permeability simulator.

Naturally Fractured Limestone Reservoir
Evaluation of fracture system permeability for a naturally fractured Devonian reef complex in Canada. Fracture data from core, borehole imagery, outcrop mapping and injection tests was used to develop a conceptual model of fracture distribution within the reservoir. The reservoir was divided into distinct fracture domains and for each domain directional permeabilities were calculated.

Seal Competency
FracMan was used to model microfracturing in shales to assess seal competency as a function of shale thickness.

Steamflood Project in Massive Carbonate: Yates Field, West Texas
Golder Associates led a three year long, U.S. DOE funded joint research project with Marathon Oil Company and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to develop technologies for fractured reservoirs. The new technologies were used to simulate steam movement in the fractured reservoir and to optimize the number and locations of steam injectors for the Yates steamflood project.

Fractured Reservoir Model
Analysis of fractured reservoir data and development of a geological reservoir model for an oil field offshore Mexico

Characterization and Simulation of an Exhumed Fractured Petroleum Reservoir
Research project lead by the University of Utah, Energy and Geoscience Institute. The exhumed reservoir was used as an analog reservoir to develop and test new methods for creating discrete fracture network models and to simulate flow in fractured reservoirs.

Europe

Integrated Fractured Oil Reservoir Model
Development of a reservoir model for an immature fractured reservoir in a complexly-faulted overthrust play. FMS, core, seismic, and well test data were analyzed and integrated to create a 3D stochastic reservoir model.

North Sea Oil Fields
Enhancement of completions design program for naturally-fractured reservoirs and for reservoirs with multiply-fractured horizontal wells and fractured vertical wells in the North Sea.

Coalbed Methane
Scope involved re-interpretation of existing well test data for a coalbed methane field in Eastern Europe and the planning of additional tests to assess hydraulic fracturing campaign design.

Drill Stem Test Simulation
Results from two drill stem tests were used to calibrate a fractured reservoir model for a North Sea chalk reservoir.

Asia

Fractured Basement Oil Reservoir
Analysis of fractured reservoir data and assistance in the development of a geological reservoir model for an oil field in China. The field is located in a fractured vulcanic complex composed of tuffs, basalts, vulcanic sediments and diabase intrusions.

Bohai Bay Field Reservoir Model
Analysis of fractured reservoir data and development of a geological reservoir model for an offshore oil field located in China's Bohai Bay.
